In its 17th year the competition attracted more than 760,000 candidates from 116 countries, a 35 percent increase in participation year-over-year.  Students entered to prove their superior skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, culminating the most popular technology skills competition on Microsoft Office and the only one endorsed by Microsoft since its inception in 2002.

To enter the competition, students age 13 to 22 took a qualifying Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification exam to demonstrate their mastery of Microsoft Office products.  Regional competitions were held worldwide and 152 student finalists from 52 countries competed in the final round of competition in Orlando, Florida, USA from July 29 – August 1, 2018.

I, Oudomsavanh XAYAVONG as the competitor in 3 years

I’m so happy for all Laos students have been in earnest to studying and intending with this competition, even though this year there is only one Lao candidate named in 9th place on top 10. But I still believe if the person who competed this year or previous year will get a new chance to participate in the next year, I’m sure the one on top 3 won’t be only a dream.

Unfortunately, The competent organization in Laos made a decision:

The person want to be lao representative should not have been participated in USA

As the official rule in MOSWC, the contest eligibility weren’t saying that who participated in previous MOSWC that be prohibited.

I would like to make a conclusion for understand easier, there are:

  1. The score in competing must be 700 or more than (full score is 1000).
  2. Be between the ages of 13 and 22.
  3. Entrants who have previously competed in the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship final round are not eligible to compete in the same product track (e.g. Excel, Word, or PowerPoint), even if it is a different version of that product, but may compete in a different product track (e.g. a previous competitor in the Excel product track can only compete in the Word or PowerPoint product tracks).

Then, how are we must do to be on top 3 ? ?

Well, It’s a quite hard question, But I will tell by asking candidates and supervisors from other countries, How and What is making you be the champion?

A: Who had competed on previous contest, that will be easy for him/her, If s/he will compete next year. Because the experience can help you, even though next year you will get a new competitor. But, when you explain them to understand about how is final round competition?, What are we should do ? And whatever… it’s fine to tell. But the solid better than the abstract.

B: A pressure, if you ain’t know anything about the competition, you will lose your time at the first time. But in the rule saying you must take your time to shortest as you can and make a highest score also. The pressure will be down when you really know about it, it must be helpful.

C: A good planing, The planing has including training from home until now, when you were home, what you have done, Speaking with previous competitors. You must be working hard.

D: A language problem, The competition required you must know English well. If you didn’t know English and you were here, you are waste your time and sponsor’s budget. It is a thing you must have when you are thinking to participate, It isn’t only you know how to use a program, that’s not enough, the questions are in English. And I think you come to traveling not for a winner. If you want, you should be ready more than this, be a leader such that can help yourself, you know everything what you are doing now. However, I think it still has other things must be considered same as Miss A, Mr.B and Mr.C said. But The thing I said, you must you must have it.

E: Clam down, Madam D. You are too serious… If the candidates ain’t good on language, but they know about the contest. It’s possible to be a winner. But I want only a supervisor can be a leader, what those are kiddo don’t know, the supervisor can help them, that’s fine.

From the suggestion above, I hope it might be good advises for future.

Team Laos

All of you guys, you don’t need to be disappointed or sad, you were working hard and I know it, you are did good ? Ekward
